In a world full of labels that scream “healthy” and “natural,” it’s easy to assume we’re making good choices. But over time, I’ve learned that health isn’t about trendy buzzwords — it’s about simplicity, clarity, and listening to your body.
I used to think I was doing the right thing by grabbing products labeled “organic,” “plant-based,” or “low fat.” But then I started reading the ingredients. That’s when everything changed.
Take almond milk, for example. Most cartons are filled with gums, fillers, preservatives, and oils. Even some of the “cleaner” ones have ten ingredients or more. It wasn’t until I discovered Califia Organic Almond Milk — made with just three ingredients: water, almonds, and sea salt — that I realized how different real, simple food can feel in my body.
Now, I aim for products with three ingredients or less whenever I can. I’ve become that person at the grocery store flipping everything over, scanning labels, and making mindful choices — not from a place of obsession, but from love. My sensitive body notices the difference. Maybe yours will too.
Here are a few gentle shifts I’ve made:
Nut butters: I choose brands like Teddie unsalted peanut butter — just peanuts. No sugar, no palm oil.
Oats: Plain, unflavored oats I can prepare myself. No added “natural flavors.”
Bread: Thin-sliced whole grain bread with recognizable ingredients — not a paragraph of chemicals.
Fruit: Just fruit. No added sugars or syrups. Cut up and freeze for smoothies!
The less processed, the better. Our bodies know what to do with food that’s from the earth. And I don’t say this with judgment or perfectionism — just as a reminder that we deserve to feel good. We deserve food that supports our nervous systems, our energy, and our healing.
If you’re feeling bloated, tired, or just off — try going back to the basics. Read your labels. Make one small swap. Let it be an act of care, not control.
